World Food Day is celebrated every year on 16th October. It is the foundation day of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). FAO was established in the year 1945 as an agency of the United Nations. The aim of celebrating this day is to spread public awareness about hunger challenges as well as to encourage people to take action in the fight against hunger.
Main Objectives of World Food Day:
This year's theme is “Climate is changing. Food and agriculture must too”. Climate change has affected food security very much. Social and economic development is impossible without food security. Due to the climate change and weather related disasters, around 800 million people are suffering from chronic undernourishment. Moreover, Small-scale farmers, fishers and pastoralists are finding it very difficult to earn money as well as to produce enough food for their families. The aim of the theme is to raise awareness on climate change and its impact on food security.
