IWD 2020

International Women's Day 2020

International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8, worldwide. It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political.

It calls for a change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities. IWD has been observed since the early 1900's.

The theme of IWD 2020 is: I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights.

IWD 2020 sees a number of MISSIONS to help forge a gender equal world. Celebrating women's achievements and increasing visibility, while calling out inequality, is key.

The purpose of this theme is to bring together people of every gender, age, ethnicity, race, religion and country, to drive actions that will create the gender-equal world we all deserve. This will help to mobilize to end gender-based violence; calling for economic justice and rights for all; bodily autonomy, sexual and reproductive health and rights; and feminist action for climate justice.
