World Earth Day 2017
World Earth Day is observed every year on 22nd April, in order to increase the awareness amongst the masses about the growing problem of environmental destruction, and the need for achieving environment safety. The main aim is to motivate people to take small steps in their daily lives to make earth a better place to live.
The theme of World Earth Day 2017 is “Environmental and Climate Literacy”. Education is the foundation for progress. Environmental and climate literacy is the engine not only for creating awareness about climate change (such as unpredictable temperatures, an increasing number of severe weather events, and endangered species) and its adverse effect on our planet but also for accelerating green technologies and jobs. Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders. To deal with the challenges they will face, all students need the best-available, science based information about climate change. There is need to educate every member of the community about local environmental issues and empower and mobilize them to take informed civic action to protect the environment.
In order to increase industrialization, a lot of deforestation takes place which ultimately leads to the rise in earth temperature. The problems caused by environment pollution are multi-fold in term of economy as well as health hazards.
During your daily routine, you must have noticed lot of things which make you believe that we human beings have exploited the resources to a greater extent. People cannot distinguish between the ‘need and the greed’. Severe problems like depletion of the ozone layer, river pollution due to dumping of industrial waste, global warming etc. have cropped up due to irrational use of resources.
As good citizens, it is our responsibility to plant more trees, take small steps to conserve our resources and protect our environment.
What we can do?
