World Family Doctor Day
A good doctor’s comforting and reassuring words are sometimes more powerful words than medicines.
World Family Doctor Day is observed on 19th May every year. This day was first declared by WONCA (World Organization of National colleges Academies, the short form is World Organization of Family Doctors) in 2010 to highlight the role and contribution of family doctors in health care systems around the world.
This day is a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the central role of doctor’s expertise in the delivery of personal, comprehensive and continuing health care for all patients. This is also an opportunity to celebrate the progress being made in family medicine and the special contributions of family doctors all over the world.
The aim to celebrate this day is:
Bring attention to the contributions of family doctors globally
Recognize family doctors
Increase the morale of family doctor
Highlight important issues relating to family doctors and the work they perform in supporting health care for people around the world
This year the theme will be Smoking cessation. As we all know, the family doctor play an important role in keeping us healthy. Now with this theme, our family doctor makes us aware about quitting smoking.
